Synopsis

THE FOREST: A SECTOR, AN ETHIC, A KNOW-HOW

Today, perhaps more than ever, forests are at the heart of several significant issues facing society. Yet, without sufficient understanding of forest resources, their history and the men and women working to harness them, the debate risks being out of touch with reality. Many topics have been covered on film but usually from biased (or even radical) perspectives.

This web documentary series aims to spotlight all the parties involved in the sector.

During filming for the first season, I realised the crucial issue relating to the future of forests and our society is a subject of debate and a priority for humankind, the forest, and the forestry sector.

For instance, our society is facing climate change, so if French forests have to adapt, what about our society and lifestyles? Coronavirus has also come to challenge our society and our interpersonal relationships, and our relationship with nature.

As I met with the French forestry and wood industry stakeholders, I felt that I was only just beginning to scratch the surface. I have also realised that I had not had the opportunity to examine certain aspects in nearly enough depth.

It is for these reasons that Jean-Guénolé Cornet and I want to go even further with a second season and thus further our cooperation for a better promotion of the French forest and its contributors.
